Carleton College uses CORT furniture for faculty housing

CORT Case Study: Carleton College

With outdated furniture and a new school year quickly approaching, Carleton College wanted to update faculty housing furnishings to mirror the college’s high-quality education and reputation.

More than 30 years ago, Carleton College established a faculty housing program so new faculty and visiting professors could easily acclimate to campus life and focus on their teachings. With 37 faculty rental units available, the housing program includes a variety of floor plans with both partially or fully furnished housing options to accommodate each faculty member’s needs. While the faculty housing program is an invaluable program for those newly entering into the college, the fully furnished rental units were fitted with outdated furniture and accessories that didn’t mirror the college’s high-quality education and reputation.

How We Helped:

  • Provided 16 fully furnished units for Carleton College’s faculty housing program. Each unit received contemporary furniture optimized for their unit floor plan.
  • Worked alongside Carleton College’s housing department to develop customized rental solutions for each unit.
  • Delivered solutions that adhered to the college’s sustainability practices.

CORT's Solution

Carleton College met with local CORT representatives to discuss their furniture needs and develop a solution. The college wanted to find a furnishing option that also upheld their commitment to environmental sustainability. Carleton College is strongly committed to environmental sustainability practices such as installing wind turbines on campus. In fact, Carleton College was recognized as a leader in college sustainability in 2007 by the Sustainable Endowments Institute. In addition to finding a sustainable solution, Carleton College required a customizable yet affordable plan. Each of its 16 fully furnished units had a different floor plan, requiring a unique solution that was best for each unit.

The Result

Carleton worked alongside CORT’s local representatives to review the floor plans and understand their style preferences. After just four months, the units were complete and the faculty quickly embraced the redesigned units. Carleton was also able to uphold their commitment to sustainability by working with CORT to ensure that the old furniture would be repurposed rather than letting the furniture go to waste. In addition, CORT’s rental program includes furniture delivery service and ongoing maintenance, allowing Carleton to streamline the operational costs for its faculty residential program. Carleton College continues to receive an influx of positive testimonials from faculty living in the newly furnished units. The updated units provide a superior housing experience for faculty and reflect the college’s reputation for high-quality education.
