Over 45 years ago, CORT began with a single goal in mind: to deliver unparalleled customer service to people and businesses. CORT’s Evolution of Services and Solutions
Before our red trucks motored from city to city providing furniture to millions of individuals and businesses across the globe, CORT began as a combination of four family-run businesses. Follow the timeline below to see how CORT evolved into a worldwide furniture solutions provider.
A Fortune 200 company, primarily in the furniture manufacturing and carpeting business, Mohasco Corporation, based in Amsterdam NY, expands its home furnishings activities with the purchase and merging of five regional furniture rental companies in the Northeast, Southeast and Midwest, which became CORT Furniture Rental.
CORT focuses primarily on furniture rental to apartment communities, students and the military, but eventually opens Clearance Centers to sell previously rented furniture as a means to provide consumers access to high quality furniture at a great value.
CORT expands from home furnishings to providing office furnishings to businesses in need.
CORT moves headquarters to Fairfax, Virginia. Today, CORT’s headquarters are in Chantilly, Virginia.
CORT offers Housewares product lines for the kitchen, bed and bath enabling customers a complete move-in ready solution.
Mohasco & CORT split as part of a leveraged buyout.
CORT goes public, officially changing its name to CORT Business Services Corporation.
CORT builds a growng trade show and events business, servicing major trade show contractors, corporate exhibitors and special events nationwide.
Warren Buffet buys CORT and CORT becomes a Berkshire Hathaway Company.
CORT Launches the CORT Global Furniture Rental Network with 15 partners around the world. Today the CORT Global Network® has over 45 partners offering furniture rental solutions in over 80 countries around the world.
CORT launches ApartmentSearch.com.
CORT creates a relocation services network assisting corporations in their project management and temporary relocation needs. In 2010 the name is changed to CORT Destination Services™ and expanded offerings are added.
CORT expands into the UK with the purchase of Roomservice by CORT, today’s leading home furniture rental provider in the UK.
Today, CORT has more than 100 offices, showrooms and clearance centers across the United States, operations in the United Kingdom and partners in more than 80 countries.
